ALICE MARTIN
Today we hit the high we were trying to get south of. At 11am we were at:
N31 58' 19" W 130 07' 51" - so we crossed the 130 line at 32 degrees (about where we thought we would when we talked about it last Saturday. The weather currently is a beautiful sunny day - no clouds - and a very light breeze. We are moving at about 5 knots. Over the last 24 hour period we did 150 miles with 1606 to go. The 0.75oz spinnaker is up (still) as we hunt down Green Buffallo.
On the boat we are all in great spirits. Last night we had Green Pea Soup with Spinach salad and bread rolls followed by Cream Dream desserts. Everyopne on board says "Thank You Rene'" for the great dinner.
Stan has been checking the weather diligently - we would have liked to have gone further south - we just couldn't make it fast enough - so now we drive through this bottom edge of the High and then hopefully the wiund will pick up within the next 12 hours and we'll be off to Oahu.
Messages seem to be coming through OK - if you want to post a reply toi the blog - feel free - we can read them from the boat.
So far we haven't seen much in the way of aquatic life. The sea is nice and blue but empty. But as we go further south and west we'll see something.
That's all for the moment - till tomorrow

It looks like the weather is turning nice. We are all now feeling good - the seasickness has about run its course for everyone.
At 2:30pm we are at N33 18.73' W128 9.7' Still heading south to go around the high and look for the favorable winds.
This morning we woke up with a boat about 2 miles directly astern - it turned out to be 'Tutte Bene' - a Division B boat. We both hoisted spinnakers at about the same time. Later we went from the small one to the new 0.5oz spinnaker and we are cruising along at about 7 knots. At 11:00am we had travelled 366m with 1742m still to go.
We are all settled into our routines and starting new fair weather ones - reading, writing, sun-bathing.... (well not sun-bathing!)
Everything is still working well on Hooligan. She is giving us a nice comfortable ride right now. Food has been good and will now get much better as we can appreciate it better. Tonight homemade Pea Soup! - Thanks Rene'
Greetings from all of us to all of you
Ian
Been a nice day today. The weather has been kind and we have kept in nice 15kn winds on a beam reach all day. As I write this we are at:
N34 59.67 W126 03.24
We have all been suffering a little with seasickness - Stan and Bert hardly at all - thank goodness. Hooligan has done us proud. She is trucking along at anice 9-10kn, averaging about 8.5 Lets hope we can keep this up.
We just held our 4th of July party - Wasn't it nice of us Brits to let them win!! Now we can party too!
As I write this (7pm 7/4/06) Alice is driving, Bert and Rudy are on watch, I am getting ready to go up at 8pm and Irwin and Stan are sleeping. The diesel is running - charging the batteries, we only ran it for 45 minutes this morning before the check in on SSB. We are still settling into our routines - food is a little adverturous - seeing as how we are all feeling - but we have just scoffed some of Rene's delicious Cabbage soup. Plenty more in the pot to consume through the night.

Happy Independence day! Hope everyone at TYC had fun
Howdy family, friends and fans,
We're racing. We tried to be agressive at the start, and or position was, but we didn't have the power to pull it off, so it will be a come from behind victory. Doing pretty well out here, the breeze is up 20+ and we're fast reaching south and west.
That's it for now, back to the galley for me.
Stan

Hi Friends and Family,
Welcome to Hooligan's Weblog. It's pretty funny to me that we are diving into seafaring and blogging together. A little new with the old and yin for yang.
The intent of this blog is to keep you posted on our whereabouts and happenings as we race to Hawaii and wander home. But don't count on too much as we will be busy racing.
Today was the skipper's meeting and weather briefing. The official word on the weather (from Stan Honey, recent winner of the Volvo around the world race) is not pretty. Winter like patterns are prevalent in the Pacific, the usual High that keeps California dry all summer is wimpy and getting pushed around by Lows. The High is also the feature that typically provides racers to Hawaii consistent breeze. We expect to head south looking for favorable winds, before turning right and pointing towards Hawaii.
Tomorrow we'll be loading the boat with personal gear and food and do some last minute preparations.
Monday morning we'll meet at the boat kind of early and push off for Hawaii between 9 and 9:30. If you wish to stop by and see us one last time you're welcome. Our start will be at 11:15 off of the St Francis Yacht Club if you want to see us head out the gate. Just as a note to spectators, the Yacht Club will not be open. There are some public potties up on Crissy Field.
If this text blog isn't good enough for you here are some suggestions:
www.pacificcup.org - will have lots of info about all of the 43 boats heading to Hawaii.
www.iboattrack.com/racetracking.html - will be tracking a few boats in near real time and the rest of us based on the daily roll call positions
www.latitude38.com/LectronicLat/LectronicLat.html - local sailing magazine
www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/ - lots of sailing news
www.sailinganarchy.com/ - sailing news by people who think they are cooler than you
Thanks for checking in.
