left Port Angeles 0830 with fcst for west winds. had glassy calm, east winds but no west. did have strong flood current so decided to keep going for seattle. 2 hrs out of shilshole a NW wind popped up so I actually sailed the last 12 miles or so. Anyway got myself thru the locks by myself ok and now am tied up to home dock. Now for a shower and back to the politicos.

end of trip

customs did not really like me entering Neah Bay, they no longer have an agent there. So I had to clear through Port Angeles, a 8 hour motor with glassy seas on the straits but with the current. No hint of the forcast west wind. Anyway am at the public dock in PA for tonite.

decided to make a run for Neah bay before the next storm. So left my cove at 0700 and motored thye inland passage to Tofino and then a straight course for Neah Bay, total about 100 nm. Had 10-15 knt SW winds most of the way which kept the sails full but was not enough for sail only. So used a lot of diesel. Arrived Neah bay about 2200 after dodging shipping in the straits and other boats near Neah. Now for customs !

rain all day, but very sheltered in my little cove. had a black bear on the shore for a while. seems like the worst of the storm will be tonite. can't decide yet about tomorrow.

had a great soak in the hot spring. at 7 am all to myself. then south wind picked up and the cove is wide open to the south, so decided to find a more sheltered spot, which you can see from the map. no one else here. may leave sunday after the storm passes.

today the swells from the storm were still big but the wind waves had died, as had the wind. but there is fcst a new storm starting tomor and lasting a few days. so I decided rather to hole up at hot springs than some other place so I motorsailed as fast as I could from 7.30 am to 8 pm to get to hot springs cove. It was a bumpy ride but I did have some s wind to fill the sail and steady the rolling. did 80 miles in 12.5 hrs, a little over 6 knts av. now for a soak in the hot spring !

not a great day. left winter hbr 0600 expecting 20 knt NW and got almost zip wind, but rough seas. made for a very uncomfortable ride to brooks peninsular. After rounding brooks things smoothed out and made columbia cove about noon. Mike in his 18 ft cat was there, (met him in sea-otter) and we did the beach hike in the pm and happy hr. forcst is for se storm so we may be here a few days.

nice day today. left sea-otter at 1100 due to tides. right outside the cove put up the sails, turned off motor and sailed with 20-30 knt winds all the way to Winter hbr. did about 7 knts and arrived about 3 pm. Winter hbr still full of sports fish killers. may head for brookes if wx ok tomor.

not a nice day. pea-soup fog all day. left blunden 0600 to catch current and had to negotiate the rocks and islands to Pine island with no visibility. From Pine isl to cape scott still fog and from scott to sea-otter cove, where im now, fog. Only saw land when in sea-otter at 1600 hrs, which is not very nice. also no wind except on the nose for a short while. maybe tomor will be better !

left mcneil in pea-soup fog at 0600. arrived blunden hbr in thick fog about 1000, no wind. then fog lifted to reveal a nice sunny bay, once a first nation villiage. May head for cape scott tomor if wx ok.
